In southwestern Guatemala, BrightArc and Habitat for Humanity are addressing one of the region’s most urgent climate-linked threats: the collapse of local water systems due to pollution, overuse, and population growth. Lake Atitlán, once a pristine water source, now suffers from untreated sewage, pesticide runoff due to tourism. For surrounding communities, the result is chronic waterborne illness and unreliable access to safe drinking water.
This project will install household-level filtration systems designed for long-term use and low maintenance, giving 1,000 families the ability to rely on clean water even during climate-related disruptions. The effort is part of a broader strategy to strengthen community resilience, reduce environmental health risks, and support sustainable living in a region increasingly vulnerable to ecological stress.
